2013 – International Year of Water Cooperation
The resolution notes the crucial importance of water for sustainable development, including environmental integrity and the eradication of poverty and hunger. It expressed concern about the slow and uneven progress towards the goal: to halve the proportion of people without sustainable access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation.
International Year of Water Cooperation should be a platform to bring together the efforts of the UN and other international and regional organizations, governments, civil society and business in order to raise awareness of problems in the field of water resources and their solutions. Thus the year will help create a favorable environment for the development of new ideas and the most effective ways to achieve the internationally agreed targets on fresh water.
Republican landscape reserve Pribuzhskoe Polesie with the territory 7950 ha was designated to conserve unique landscapes in the southern part of Brest district.
In 2003, in order to solve the key problem – the establishment of equilibrium between apparently conflicting goals: protection of biological diversity, promoting economic and social development and maintenance of cultural values, on the basis of the same landscape reserve biosphere reserve was created on the area 48024 ha, which in 2004 was included into the World network of biosphere reserves of UNESCO.
After Berezinsky biosphere reserve and Belovezhskaya Pushcha National Park Pribuzhskoye Polesie is the third protected territory in Belarus that received the status of biosphere reserve. It is the only flat trilateral protected area in Europe, created with the participation of three countries – Belarus, Poland and the Ukraine.
In 2004 biosphere reserve “Pribuzhskoe Polesie” got UNESCO diploma.
